Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich Cadets
women's soccer squad scored two goals in the final five
minutes of regulation time, but couldn't overcome the
Emmanuel Saints, facing a 3-2 loss at Roberto Clemente Field on
Saturday.
Emmanuel (4-8, 2-4 GNAC) put Norwich (6-4, 4-2 GNAC) at a
two-goal deficit in the first 15 minutes of play, as Saints'
Brittany Ridge placed a head ball in the Cadets net on a corner
kick play, followed shortly after by teammate Darcey Sullivan who
was in prime position for a rebound goal after a ball knocked off
the Norwich crossbar.
As the Saints doubled the Cadets in shots, 12-6, Norwich found
their opportunity to go to goal when sophomore Lisa
Esparza fed senior Karissa Doyon a ball
that was placed in the top shelf of Emmanuel's net. On the
next play, the Saints answered back with a Logan Carr bomb past
Cadets' senior goalie Alecia Wright, putting
the score at 3-1 with less than four minutes on the clock.
Norwich refused to stop playing until the whistle blew, allowing
Esparza to have the final say in the match,
netting an unassisted goal on a hard-earned breakaway with minutes
remaining on the clock.
Wright made five saves in net for the Cadets,
while Saints netminder Beatrix Hassler set aside two.
Norwich returns to the pitch at Howard Field on Wednesday,
hosting Lasell for a 3:30 p.m. GNAC contest.
