Women's Soccer: Casey, Cadets Hold 1-0 Lead To Push Past Saint Joseph's of Maine

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore Brittany Casey's 20th goal of the season, tallied in the first half of the game, turned out to be the game-winner of Saturday's GNAC contest against the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine, as the Cadets held onto their lead for a 1-0 final score.

In the 36th minute of the first half, Casey set up for a indirect kick just over 35 yards out from the Monk's net. Placing a lofted ball perfectly towards the far side of the net, three Norwich players rushed to get a touch on it before Monk's goalie, freshman Jaci Lorenzen, could make a save. With the perfect combination of lift and power, Casey's ball found its own way into the net, earning the Cadets the eventual win.

Having only had five shots in the first half, the Monks doubled their efforts in the second frame with 10 shots, seven of which were on goal. Cadets' goalie, senior Nicki Hunsicker kept Norwich in the game with nine vital saves in the 90 minutes of action. Lorenzen finished her full-game effort with five saves.

The Cadets (10-5, 7-3 GNAC) will travel to Mount Ida for their next GNAC contest on Wednesday with the kickoff scheduled to be at 3:30 p.m.
