NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Sophomore F Brittane Michaud
scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Norwich University
women's ice hockey team shut out the University of Southern Maine,
3-0, Saturday afternoon in an ECAC East contest at Kreitzberg
Arena.
The Cadets (9-1-2, 8-1-2 ECAC East) held a commanding 39-8 edge
in shots for the game, as they throroughly dominated the Huskies
(3-8-2, 3-6-0 ECAC East).
Michaud put Norwich on top at the 13:05 mark of the first period
when she scored an unassisted goal - her third of the season. The
Cadets outshot the Huskies 11-3 in the stanza, but they were unable
to add to their lead.
Senior F Sophie Leclerc made it 2-0 at 6:50 of the second period
when she scored her sixth goal of the year. Michaud and junior F
Sarah Scardino were credited with assists on the play. NU outshot
USM 16-3 in the middle frame.
Sophomore F Melissa Rundlett capped the scoring at the11:30 mark
of the third period when she scored her fifth goal of the season
off assists from Michaud and junior F Kelsey Cone. The Cadets held
a 12-2 edge in shots during the final 20 minutes.
Junior G Cindy Fortin turned aside all eight shots that she
faced en route to the victory. Southern Maine goaltender Kimmy
Flanders maded 36 shots in the loss.
Norwich will resume its ECAC East schedule next weekend (Jan.
15-16), when the Cadets travel to take on UMass-Boston and
Manhattanville.
