Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Colby College men's hockey team was just seconds away from pulling off an upset of third-ranked Norwich University, but the Cadets scored with 14 seconds remaining in regulation and the two teams settled for a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon at Alfond Rink.

Colby moves to 7-2-2, while Norwich stays unbeaten at 10-0-3 (6-0-1 ECAC East).

Colby freshman Michael Smigelski scored his fourth goal of the season just 28 seconds into the third period off assists from Matt Strickland and Jeoff Jarnot to give the Mules a 1-0 lead.

Colby goalie Cody McKinney nearly kept Norwich off the scoreboard. He finished with 34 saves, including 13 in the opening period.

Norwich finally broke up the shutout bid when freshman F Pier-Oliver Cotnoir scored an unassisted tally with just 14 seconds left in regulation. The Cadets had pulled senior G Ryan Klingensmith for the extra attacker with 47 seconds to play.

Klingensmith made just 16 saves in the game, but did stop three shots in overtime to preserve the tie.
