WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Senior F Sophie Leclerc
scored the Cadets' lone goal, and junior G Cindy Fortin turned
aside 38 of the 39 shots that she faced as the Norwich University
women's ice hockey team tied Williams College, 1-1, Tuesday
evening.
Williams (5-5-2) outshot Norwich 39-18 in the game, but Fortin
stood tall in the Cadets' goal to help the visitors earn the tie.
NU was unable to take advantage of five power play opportunities,
going 0-for-5 on the man-advantage.
The Ephs opened the scoring at the 6:23 mark of the first period
when Allison Page scored off an assist from Kristen Tubbs.
Norwich (10-2-3) tied the score less than seven minutes later
when Leclerc potted her seventh marker of the season off assists
from sophomore F Felicia Desorcie and freshman F Jacqueline Perez
at the 13:11 mark of the first period.
Williams outshot Norwich 16-4 in the second period, but Fortin
was able to keep the Ephs off the scoreboard. Williams enjoyed two
power plays during the middle frame, but they were unable to tally
the go-ahead goal.
Williams held a 13-6 advantage in shots during the third period,
but the Ephs were unable to solve Fortin. The third-year goaltender
has been brilliant over the last two games, stopping 66 of 69
shots. She backstopped Norwich's 3-2 tie over nationally-ranked
Manhattanville College last Saturday night.
Norwich will resume its ECAC East schedule on Saturday, Jan. 23,
when the Cadets host in-state rival Castleton State College at
Kreitzberg Arena. Faceoff for the conference clash is slated for 7
p.m.
