NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University
volleyball team continued its winning ways with a pair of victories
on Saturday afternoon at Andrews Hall. The Cadets began the day
with a 3-0 sweep of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)
rival Lasell, and followed it up with a 3-1 defeat of in-state foe
Castleton State.
Norwich (7-2, 1-0 GNAC) beat Lasell by set scores of 25-23,
25-21 and 25-20. The Cadets then came from behind to down
Castleton, 21-25, 25-21, 25-13 and 25-17.
Senior Lisset Magdaleno led the Cadets against the Lasers with
nine kills, 16 digs and eight blocks. Junior Molly Rice added six
kills, a team-best 19 assists and 11 digs, while fellow junior Thea
Evans posted a team-high18 digs.
Sophomores April Byllaardt (seven kills, three service aces) and
Brittany Palmer (four service aces, 14 digs) also put up solid
numbers for the Cadets.
Rice had a huge match versus Castleton, posting another
double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs. She also added seven
kills. Evans added a double-double of her own with 11 kills and 10
digs, while Palmer chipped in eight kills and 23 digs.
Byllaardt pitched in five service aces and five blocks while
junior Jessica Bielski posted four service aces.
The Cadets continue their three-game homestand on Tuesday, Sept.
15, when they host in-state rival Green Mountain College at Andrews
Hall. First seve is set for 7 p.m.
