NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Norwich University softball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader from Albertus Magnus Saturday afternoon, defeating the Falcons by the lopsided scores of 11-0 and 16-0.

The Cadets (5-11, 4-4 GNAC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game. NU added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Norwich tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning, and the game was stopped following the fifth frame due to the mercy rule.

Kelsey Buker (1-1) and Mackenzie Pratt teamed up for the shutout. Buker pitched 2.0 innings and yielded just one hit while striking out two. Pratt, meanwhile, tossed 3.0 innings and allowed only one hit and struck out seven.

Norwich jumped all over Albertus Magnus (0-6, 0-6 GNAC) in the nightcap, as the Cadets scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the second frame. NU added three more runs in the third inning and six in the fifth to finish the game after five innings.

Carey went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and three runs scored, while Balasco went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Grennon (2-for-3, double, two RBIs, four runs scored) and Katelyn Menard (2-for-4, two doubles, four RBIs, one run scored) were both instrumental in the game two victory as well.
