NASHUA, N.H. - The Norwich University softball
team continued its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) slate
on Sunday afternoon by earning a split of a doubleheader versus
2008 conference champion Rivier.
The Cadets (3-9, 2-2 GNAC) won the first game, 4-2, while the
Raiders (6-4, 3-1 GNAC) earned a 7-0 victory in the nightcap.
Mackenzie Pratt (3-4) earned the victory in the circle in the
opener. The sophomore hurler scattered three hits over seven
innings of work. She struck out four and walked just two.
Seana Ellsworth and Lindsay Carey led the offense in game one.
Ellsworth went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Carey went
3-for-4 with three RBIs. Whitney Grennon was 2-for-2 with one run
scored, and Katelyn Menard went 2-for-4 with one run batted in.
Menard (0-5) took the loss in the nightcap as Rivier jumped all
over the Cadets. The freshman pitcher allowed seven runs on eight
hits. She struck out four, while walking two. Jackie Donahue led
the Norwich attack, going 1-for-3 with a double. Marley Balasco
also went 1-for-3 in the game.
Norwich resumes its GNAC schedule on Friday, March 27, when the
Cadets take on Pine Manor in a doubleheader. First pitch for game
one is slated for 3:30 p.m.
