BOSTON - Rob Williams-Hinton scored a game-high
17 points, and Isaiah Duke netted 16 points to lead Emmanuel past
Norwich, 75-53, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)
men's basketball game Tuesday evening.
Emerson (13-9, 10-5 GNAC) shot a blistering 56.7 percent from
the floor in the first half en route to jumping out to a 41-23
halftime lead. The Saints never looked back in the second half as
they coasted to the victory.
Norwich (5-16, 3-11 GNAC) was led by Joshua Cabrera, who scored
a team-high 11 points. Mike Filipek and Robert Thurman each added
eight points apiece for the Cadets.
Emmanuel got off to a hot start, outscoring Norwich 17-7 over
the first seven minutes of the game. The Saints used an 18-13 run
to extend their advantage to 35-20 with 4:03 to play in the half.
Then, after three straight points by Norwich, Emmanuel finished the
half on a 6-0 spurt to take a commanding 41-23 lead into the
intermission.
Williams-Hinton led all scorers in the first half with 14
points. Jaren Jeffcoat and Antonio Davis paced the Cadets in the
opening 20 minutes with five points apiece.
Emmanuel opened the second half on an 11-4 run to open up a
52-27 lead at the 14:22 mark. The Saints increased their lead to as
many as 26 points en route to the victory.
For the game, Emmanuel shot 45.2 percent from the field, while
Norwich shot just 27.3 percent. Both teams struggled from the free
throw line, as each squad missed 15 shots from the charity stripe
on the night. NU held a slim 51-48 rebounding edge. Emmanuel
outscored Norwich, 24-6, on fast break points.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 12, when the Cadets
host GNAC opponent Mount Ida at Andrews Hall. Tip-off is slated for
7 p.m. The Cadets will be looking to sweep the season series from
the Mustangs, after earning an 86-79 victory in Newton, Mass., the
second weekend of January.
