JOHNSON, Vt. - Senior F Jess Jaggars posted her
second straight double-double with a team-high 14 points and a
game-high 12 rebounds, and senior G Ally Daniels chipped in 13
points as the Norwich University women's basketball team ran past
Johnson State College, 78-50, in a non-league contest Tuesday
evening.
Junior F Christine Daniels added 11 points for the Cadets, who
shot a red-hot 54.5 percent (18-for-33) in the second half to pull
away from the scrappy Badgers.
The first four minutes went back and forth with Norwich holding
a tenuous 7-5 lead at the 6:03 mark of the first half. The Cadets
then took off on a 24-8 run over the next 10 minutes to open up a
31-13 advantage with 6:28 to play before halftime. NU led 35-18
moments later, but the Badgers closed the stanza on a 6-0 spurt to
make it 35-24 at the intermission.
JSC cut the Norwich lead to 11 points (39-28) less than 90
seconds into the second half, but the Cadets put the game away with
a 19-4 run that gave the visitors a 58-32 advantage with 13:46 to
play. The Badgers got no closer than 23 points the rest of the way
as the Cadets cruised to the victory.
NU converted 16 Johnson State turnovers into 23 points. The
Cadets used their 14 offensive rebounds to score 20 second-chance
points. Norwich enjoyed a 46-33 rebounding edge in the game.
Maria Gleason netted a game-high 20 points to lead Johnson State
(2-4). Claudia Martineau added 11 points for the Badgers, who shot
just 32.8 percent (19-for-58) for the game.
Norwich will take the next three weeks off for final exams and
the holiday break. The Cadets return to action Jan. 2-3, when they
travel to York, Pa., to participate in the York College Tournament.
NU will face TCNJ in the first round of the tourney on Saturday,
Jan. 2, at 2 p.m.
