PORTLAND, Maine - Courtney Parisot scored the
game-winning goal late in the second period, and Chiara Traversa
made 17 saves as the Norwich University women's ice hockey team
overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Southern Maine, 4-3, in an
ECAC East contest Saturday afternoon.
Parisot scored off an assist from Kelsey Cone with just 1:46 to
play in the second period, and Traversa stopped both shots that she
faced in the third period to make it stand up and help the Cadets
improve to 3-0 (2-0 ECAC East).
Southern Maine (0-2, 0-2 ECAC East) jumped all over Norwich,
scoring a pair of goals within the first seven minutes of the game
to take a 2-0 lead at the 6:56 mark of the first period.
Norwich goals by Amanda Wilks and Cone in a span of less than
three minutes midway through the first period tied the score at
2-2, but the Huskies reclaimed the lead at 13:50 of the first.
Brittane Michaud capped an entertaining first period when she tied
the score at 3-3 at the 15:17 mark.
Cone finished with one goal and two assists, while Julie Fortier
dished out a pair of assists.
Traversa stopped 17 of the 20 shots that she faced as the
sophomore net minder improves to 3-0 on the young season.
Norwich outshot Southern Maine, 35-20.
Norwich returns to the friendly confines of Kreitzberg Arena
next weekend (Nov. 13-14), when the Cadets battle ECAC East foes
St. Anselm and New England College.
