Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Sophomore RB Andrew Fulford rushed for a game-high 137 yards and a touchdown, and the Cadets' defense limited Becker to 160 yards of total offense as the Norwich University football team dismantled the visiting Hawks, 42-2, in an Eastern Collegiate Football Conferene (ECFC) contest Saturday afternoon at a rainy Sabine Field.

The victory, Norwich's second in row, moves the Cadets to 2-3 (2-0 ECFC). Becker remains winless on the season at 0-5 (0-1 ECFC).

Freshman RB Danny Triplett added 86 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while freshman RB Orwin Etkins chipped in 79 rushing yards and two scores. Freshman QB Kris Sabourin rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown, while also accounting for 50 yards through the air. The Cadets totaled 320 rushing yards, marking the third time this sesaon that the Cadets have surpassed the 300-yard mark.

The Norwich defense, which forced five turnovers in the game, was led by junior LB Rocco DiMeco (eight tackles, 1.0 tackles-for-loss, one pass-breakup, one blocked field goal). Senior DB Donovan Brown intercepted two passes, while sophomore DB D.J. Siverhus and freshman DB Taylor Burbine each added one interception apiece. The Cadets limited Becker to minus-14 yards rushing on the day.

Norwich's first scoring drive was set up when Becker fumbled a punt at its own 20-yard line. Etkins capped the five-play drive with his first TD of the day, rushing the ball in from two yards out at the 6:13 mark of the first quarter.

Becker got on the scoreboard later in the opening frame when an errant shotgun snap by Norwich bounced out of the end zone for a safety. Norwich got those two points back midway through the second quarter when Becker snapped the ball out of the end zone on a punt attempt.

The Cadets scored three touchdowns over the final 5:49 of the second quarter to take a commanding 28-2 halftime lead. Fulford started the scoring explosion as he rushed for an eight-yard touchdown at the 5:49 mark. The run capped a six-play, 64-yard drive, which gave NU a 14-2 lead after a missed two-point conversion pass.

An interception by Brown set Norwich up at midfield for its next possession, and the Cadets marched 50 yards in five plays to increase their lead to 21-2 with 1:46 to play before halftime. Triplett cashed in the drive with a 13-yard run to pay dirt.

Brown's second interception of the quarter on Becker's next drive gave Norwich the ball at its own 26-yard line. The Cadets methodically moved 74 yards in six plays to extend their lead to 28-2 with two seconds to play in the half. Sabourin's 31-yard pass to freshman WR Chris Denton set up the Cadets with a first-and-goal at the Becker three-yard line. Sabourin called his own number on the next play, running the ball in from three yards out.

A 41-yard kickoff return by freshman WR Brandon Rudd, plus a personal foul penalty against Becker, gave Norwich the ball at the Hawks' 30-yard line to start the second half. Five plays later, Etkins scored his second touchdown of the afternoon on a two-yard scamper.

Norwich capped the scoring at 5:35 of the third quarter when Triplett ran for a 50-yard touchdown.

Becker was led by freshman QB Robert Baker, who completed 13-of-30 passes for 168 yards. He did throw three interceptions, however.

Norwich will put its modest two-game win streak on the line next Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Cadets travel to Washington, D.C., to take on ECFC rival Gallaudet University. Kickoff from our nation's capital is set for 12 p.m.
