Box Score

NEWTON, Mass. - Nikki Szczepanski and Brittany Casey each tallied a pair of goals, and Nicki Hunsicker made seven saves in the Cadets' net as Norwich shut out Lasell, 4-0, in a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match Saturday aftenoon.

Norwich, which has won three straight matches, improves to 7-7-1 (4-5-1 GNAC). The Lasers, meanwhile, fall to 5-4-2 (4-2-2 GNAC).

Norwich got on the board early, just 11:36 into the contest, with a breakaway opportunity by Szczepanski. The junior forward received a long lead pass and dribbled past several Lasell's defenders before ripping a shot past Lasell goalkeeper Elizabeth Stickley.

Norwich made it 2-0 with 11:18 remaining in the first half when Casey carried the ball downfield and took a shot that glided into the Lasers' net. Less than three minutes later, the Cadets struck again as Szczepanski scored from the top of the box. The goal, which was assisted by Casey, helped the Cadets to a 3-0 halftime lead.

Casey rounded out the scoring with 13:52 to play in the contest as the freshman forward drove down the left side of the field all alone before blasting a hard shot into the right-hand corner of the cage.

NU outshot Lasell 16-10 in the game, while the Lasers held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Norwich concludes its three-game road trip on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when the Cadets travel to West Hartford, Conn., to face St. Joseph (Conn.) in a key GNAC match. Gametime for the contest is set for 4 p.m.
