NEWTON, Mass. - Nikki Szczepanski and Brittany
Casey each tallied a pair of goals, and Nicki Hunsicker made seven
saves in the Cadets' net as Norwich shut out Lasell, 4-0, in a key
Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match
Saturday aftenoon.
Norwich, which has won three straight matches, improves to 7-7-1
(4-5-1 GNAC). The Lasers, meanwhile, fall to 5-4-2 (4-2-2 GNAC).
Norwich got on the board early, just 11:36 into the contest,
with a breakaway opportunity by Szczepanski. The junior forward
received a long lead pass and dribbled past several Lasell's
defenders before ripping a shot past Lasell goalkeeper Elizabeth
Stickley.
Norwich made it 2-0 with 11:18 remaining in the first half when
Casey carried the ball downfield and took a shot that glided into
the Lasers' net. Less than three minutes later, the Cadets
struck again as Szczepanski scored from the top of the box. The
goal, which was assisted by Casey, helped the Cadets to a 3-0
halftime lead.
Casey rounded out the scoring with 13:52 to play in the contest
as the freshman forward drove down the left side of the field all
alone before blasting a hard shot into the right-hand corner of the
cage.
NU outshot Lasell 16-10 in the game, while the Lasers held a 5-2
edge in corner kicks.
Norwich concludes its three-game road trip on Tuesday, Oct. 20,
when the Cadets travel to West Hartford, Conn., to face St. Joseph
(Conn.) in a key GNAC match. Gametime for the contest is set for 4
p.m.
