Box Score

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Three different Cardinals scored goals to lead the No. 1-ranked Plattsburgh State Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the 12th-ranked Norwich University Cadets in a non-conference men's ice hockey game Tuesday evening at Stafford Ice Arena.

Norwich (5-3-2) opened the scoring at the 6:22 mark of the first period when D.J. Fimiani scored off assists from Jim Koehler and C.J. Viso. Plattsburgh State tied the game in the final minute of the opening stanza when Dylan Clarke rammed one home from close range with just 32 seconds remaining on the clock. Eric Satim, who fed Clarke from behind the goal, was credited with an assist on the play. Ward Smith also picked up an assist on the goal.

Plattsburgh State (12-0-2) outshot Norwich, 11-4, in the first period, and the Cardinals enjoyed the only power play of the frame.

The Cardinals took their first lead of the game at the 8:08 mark of the second period when Phil Farrow converted a pretty two-on-one play. Farrow took a pass and flipped the puck past Norwich goaltender Ryan Klingensmith from close range. Joey Wilson and Smith assisted on the play, which put Plattsburgh State on top, 2-1.

Plattsburgh State made it 3-1 later in the second period when Tom Breslin fired a bullet of a shot from the blueline that beat Klingensmith low to the glove side. Kyle VanDermale and Andrew Willock picked up assists on the goal, which gave the Cardinals a two-goal advantage.

The Cardinals outshot the Cadets, 12-6, during the middle stanza. Plattsburgh State had two more power play opportunities, while Norwich had one man-up chance.

Norwich had a two-man advantage for 52 seconds near the beginning of the third period, but the Cadets were unable to cash anything in. NU then had another power play opportunity moments later, but were not able to score on that either.

NU held an 11-4 edge in shots in the final period, but were unable to get any of them past Plattsburgh State goalie Bryan Hince, who was solid throughout the night.

For the game, Plattsburgh State outshot Norwich, 27-21. Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play. Klingensmith made 24 saves in the loss, while Hince turned aside 20 shots en route to the win.
