NASHUA, N.H. - Antonio Davis scored a career-high 25 points, and Robert Thurman posted a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Norwich University men's basketball team past Rivier, 73-69, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game Tuesday evening.

Davis was on fire from the floor, connecting on 10-of-15 field goals, and hitting all three of his three-point attempts. The freshman forward, who scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half, also pulled down nine rebounds. Joshua Cabrera scored 11 points, and Darell Marshall added 10 points and five assists for the Cadets, who have won two of their past three games and improve to 5-11 (3-6 GNAC).

Norwich shot a red-hot 53.3 percent from the field in the second half to overcome a one-point halftime deficit. The game was a back and forth affair, which featured 11 ties and 11 lead changes. But Norwich took control down the stretch, closing the game on an 11-4 spurt to turn a 65-62 deficit at the 4:07 mark into a 73-69 win.

Rivier (8-7, 5-5 GNAC) got off to a good start, taking an 18-11 lead at the 10:43 mark of the first half. Norwich battled back with a 10-3 run to tie the score at 21-21 with 6:13 to play. Nine unanswered points by the Rivier gave the Raiders their largest lead of the night at 30-21 at the 3:22 mark, but the Cadets finished the half on an 11-3 spurt to trim their deficit to 33-32 at the intermission. Cabrera scored five points in the closing minute of the period, including a three-pointer at the buzzer, to give NU momentum as the teams headed to the break.

The teams traded baskets over the first seven minutes of the second half, and the score was tied at 46-46 at the 12:48 mark. A lay-up by Cabrera and five points by Davis ignited an 8-2 Norwich run that gave the Cadets a 54-48 lead with less than 10 minutes to play. Rivier bounced back with an 8-2 run of its own to tie the score at 56-56 at the 6:52 mark. Another few minutes of back and forth action saw the game tied for a final time at 66-66 with 2:46 to play.

Norwich trailed 67-66 moments later, but a jumper by Davis and a dunk by Thurman gave the Cadets the lead for good. Rivier got to within one point at 70-69, but Norwich held on by making three of four free throws down the stretch.

Rivier was led by Lance Bisson, who scored a team-high 22 points and added nine rebounds and five assists. D.J. Poitras chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds for the Raiders, while Felipe Lima posted 14 points.

For the game, Norwich shot 44.1 percent from the field, while Rivier shot 41.0 percent. The Cadets outrebounded the Raiders, 39-33.

Norwich will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 29, when the Cadets host GNAC foe St. Joseph's (Maine) at Andrews Hall. Tip-off for the conference game is slated for 7:30 p.m. The two teams met earlier this season, with the Monks securing a 58-52 victory in Standish, Maine.
