MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Nikita Kashirsky scored
four goals, and Ryan Klingensmith stopped 27 of the 28 shots that
he faced to help lead the No. 12-ranked Norwich University men's
ice hockey team past Wesleyan, 6-1, in an ECAC East-NESCAC
Interlock game Saturday afternoon.
Norwich (9-5-2, 7-3-1 ECAC East) opened the scoring midway
through the first period as Kashirsky scored off an assist from
Steve Coon at the 10:43 mark. Less than three minutes later,
Kashirsky made it 2-0 when he scored at the 13:23 mark off a pass
from Chad Anderson.
Wesleyan (2-12-1, 2-8-1 NESCAC) got on the scoreboard later in
the first period when David Layne found A.J. Ferraro at the 14:52
mark.
Norwich exploded offensively in the second period, outshooting
Wesleyan 20-9. Three of the Cadets' 20 shots found the back of the
net as they opened up a commanding 5-1 lead after two periods of
play. Kashirsky finished off his hat trick just 5:02 into the
second when he took a pass from Anderson and scored. Kashirsky
netted his fourth tally of the game, and 11th of the season, when
he took a feed from D.J. Fimiani and scored at the 12:51 mark. Nick
Quagliani capped the scoring in the second stanza as he potted his
first goal of the season off assists from Craig Serino and Rico
Piatelli.
Emmond Bell rounded out the scoring in the third period as he
scored a short-handed marker at the 7:08 mark. The unassisted goal
was the sixth of the season for Bell
Norwich outshot Wesleyan 37-28 in the game. The Cadets went
0-for-1 on the power play, while the Cardinals went 0-for-2 on the
man advantage.
Norwich will hit the road again next weekend (Jan. 30-31), when
the Cadets travel to New Hampshire to battle ECAC East rivals St.
Anselm and New England College. The Norwich-St. Anselm game is
slated for Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., while the NU-NEC contest is
scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31, at 4 p.m. Both games will be
