NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Jose Guitian posted a
double-double with a game-high 23 points and a game-high 10
rebounds to lead Lasell past Norwich, 93-68, in a Great Northeast
Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game Tuesday evening at
Andrews Hall.
Guitian added six assists, three steals and three blocks for
Lasell, who improve to 7-4 (5-0 GNAC). Junior Sanival chipped in 19
points and six rebounds for the Lasers, who swept the season series
from the Cadets.
Norwich (3-8, 1-3 GNAC) was led by Joshua Cabrera, who poured in
a team-high 18 points and added four rebounds and three assists.
Robert Thurman contributed 14 points and six rebounds for the
Cadets. Darell Marshall made his home debut for Norwich, posting 10
points and three assists.
Lasell used a 20-6 run over a span of 5:33 midway through the
first half to turn a 13-9 lead at the 15:51 mark into a 33-15
advantage at the 10:18 mark. A 15-6 Norwich spurt cut the Cadets'
deficit down to 39-30 with just under four minutes to play, but the
Lasers closed the first half on a 17-8 run to take a 56-38 lead
into halftime.
Lasell shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the first half,
including 8-of-15 from three-point range. Norwich converted 42.9
percent of its first half field goals.
Guitian led all scorers in the first half with 17 points on
6-of-10 shooting. Cabrera scored 13 points to lead the Cadets.
Thurman added 12 points in the first half.
Lasell opened the second half on a 19-6 spurt to establish a
75-44 lead at the 13:11 mark, and the Lasers never let the
advantage slip below 25 points the rest of the way as they cruised
to the victory.
For the game, Lasell shot 50.0 percent from the field, while
Norwich shot just 38.0 percent. The Lasers held a 46-45 rebounding
advantage.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 15, when the Cadets
welcome GNAC rival Emmanuel to Andrews Hall for a 7 p.m., contest.
