NEWPORT, R.I. - Molly Golden scored a pair of goals, and Rebecca Simmons made 30 saves as the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team knocked off Norwich University, 3-1, in ECAC East action Sunday night at St. George's Rink.

Kathleen Roche added a goal and an assist for the Seahawks, who improve to 9-4-0 (7-4-0 ECAC East) with the win. Whitney Brown scored the lone goal for the Cadets, who dropped their second contest in two days to fall to 5-7-0 (4-5-0 ECAC East).

With the game tied at one in the second period and the Seahawks on the power play, Roche fired a wrister from the left circle that beat Norwich goaltender Cindy Fortin high to the glove side at 13:54. The goal was Roche's third on the season and was assisted by Gabrielle Gardner.

Golden's second goal of the night at 11:35 of the third period gave the Seahawks a two-goal cushion at 3-1, and Simmons did the rest, making 15 saves in the third period to preserve the lead.

Golden opened the scoring at 5:43 of the first when she converted a pass from Jen Thiesing into her fourth goal of the season. Brown's unassisted goal at 11:15 of the first tied the game at one.

The Seahawks finished the night 2-for-4 on the power play, while Norwich failed to score on all six of its opportunities. Fortin finished the evening with 19 saves for the Cadets.

Norwich returns to action on Friday, Jan. 16, when the Cadets travel to Plymouth, N.H., to take on Plymouth State at 6 p.m.
