NORTHFIELD, Vt. - D.J. Fimiani and Tyler Stitt
scored goals, and Ryan Klingensmith stopped 15 of the 16 shots that
he faced to lead the 12th-ranked Norwich University men's ice
hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Connecticut College in an ECAC
East-NESCAC Interlock game Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.
Norwich (6-4-2, 4-2-1 ECAC East) scored two power play goals in
the first 10 minutes of the first period to jump ahead, 2-0.
Fimiani potted the first goal, scoring off assists from Nikita
Kashirsky and Eric Tallent at the 3:23 mark. Stitt made it 2-0 near
the midway point of the first period when he scored off assists
from Kashirsky and Tallent at the 9:47 mark.
The Cadets dominated the first period, outshooting the Camels
11-2 in the frame.
Norwich outshot Connecticut College, 8-7, in the second period,
but neither team was able to score.
Connecticut College (5-5-1, 1-4-1 NESCAC) finally got on the
scoreboard late in the third period, when the Camels' Robbie Tesar
scored at the 18:46 mark. The goal, which was assisted by Ryan
Riffe and Ryan Howarth, came with the extra attacker and pulled the
Camels to within 2-1.
The Camels had a couple of chances at forcing overtime, but
Klingensmith stood tall in the Norwich net to preserve the
much-needed victory.
For the game, Norwich held a 25-16 edge in shots. The Cadets
were 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Camels went 0-for-7 with
the man advantage.
Norwich will wrap up its four-game homestand next weekend (Jan.
16-17), when the Cadets host ECAC East rivals Babson and
UMass-Boston at Kreitzberg Arena. The Babson game is scheduled for
Friday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m., while the UMass-Boston contest is set
for Saturday, Jan. 17, at 4 p.m. Both games will be available live
