PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Norwich University
women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Plattsburgh State on
Friday afternoon in the first round of the Cardinal Classic.
Plattsburgh State (3-0-0) scored the only goal of the contest
with just 31 seconds to play before halftime when Helen Giroux
scored off an assist from Laura Riedel. The Cardinals were able to
make that 1-0 lead standup, holding the Cadets at bay throughout
the second half.
Plattsburgh State outshot Norwich 11-0 for the game, with six of
those shots on goal. The Cardinals had four corner kicks, while the
Cadets had just one.
Norwich sophomore goalkeeper Nicki Hunsicker played all 90
minutes for the Cadets, and she made five saves.
Norwich (0-2-0) returns to action on Saturday, when the Cadets
play Western New England at 4:30 p.m., in the second round of the
Cardinal Classic. WNEC lost to St. Lawrence, 2-0, in the first
round on Friday.
