NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Norwich University
women's soccer team won another one-goal game on Saturday
afternoon, defeating GNAC foe Albertus Magnus, 1-0. Sophomore
forward Nikki Szczepanski scored the lone goal in the fourth
minute, and sophomore goalkeeper Alecia Wright made it stand up as
the Cadets won their seventh straight game.
Norwich (7-2, 5-0) has won five one-goal games this season,
including four 1-0 decisions. Albertus Magnus drops to 3-4-2 (1-3-1
GNAC) with the loss.
Norwich and Albertus Magnus both fired 13 shots apiece, while
the Cadets held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Wright made seven saves
for NU to preserve the shutout. Christina Oddo made four saves for
Albertus Magnus.
"Alecia did a superb job in goal throughout the game," said
Norwich head coach Tyler Renaud. "She made a number of terrific
saves on breakaways, and she definitely earned this shutout today.
I thought that Leanne Waterman and Allyson Allen both did a great
job in the middle of the field all day long. They were instrumental
to this victory."
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Cadets
host GNAC rival Suffolk at Howard Field. Kickoff is slated for 3
p.m.
