Women's Soccer: Norwich Slips Past Albertus Magnus, 1-0

Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Norwich University women's soccer team won another one-goal game on Saturday afternoon, defeating GNAC foe Albertus Magnus, 1-0. Sophomore forward Nikki Szczepanski scored the lone goal in the fourth minute, and sophomore goalkeeper Alecia Wright made it stand up as the Cadets won their seventh straight game.

Norwich (7-2, 5-0) has won five one-goal games this season, including four 1-0 decisions. Albertus Magnus drops to 3-4-2 (1-3-1 GNAC) with the loss.

Norwich and Albertus Magnus both fired 13 shots apiece, while the Cadets held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Wright made seven saves for NU to preserve the shutout. Christina Oddo made four saves for Albertus Magnus.

"Alecia did a superb job in goal throughout the game," said Norwich head coach Tyler Renaud. "She made a number of terrific saves on breakaways, and she definitely earned this shutout today. I thought that Leanne Waterman and Allyson Allen both did a great job in the middle of the field all day long. They were instrumental to this victory."

Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Cadets host GNAC rival Suffolk at Howard Field. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
