NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University
women's soccer team defeated GNAC rival Lasell College, 1-0, on
Wednesday afternoon at Howard Field to extend its win streak to
four straight.
The Cadets, who started the year by losing consecutive contests,
now stand at 4-2 (2-0 GNAC). The Lasers, meanwhile, fall to 1-3
(0-2 GNAC).
Junior Becky Scully took a feed from Sarah Reuschel and netted
the lone goal of the game with just 7:37 to play in the second half
to help Norwich win its second straight 1-0 decision.
"Becky put herself in great position to score, and she just
knocked the ball into the back of the net," said Norwich head
coach Tyler Renaud.
Norwich sophomore goalkeeper Nicki Hunsicker made two saves en
route to her first shutout victory of the season.
The Cadets outshot the Lasers, 13-6, but Lasell held a 7-3 edge
on corner kicks. The Lasers committed 13 fouls, while Norwich was
whistled for just five.
"I thought it was a great game to watch," said Renaud. "There
was a lot of back and forth action, and Lasell pushed us right up
until the final horn. I am very happy with how we played, and I'm
happy to get the win."
Norwich concludes its mini two-game homestand on Saturday, Sept.
20, when the Cadets host GNAC foe St. Joseph's (Maine) at Howard
Field. Kickoff for the Homecoming Weekend contest is set for 1 p.m.
