NASHUA, N.H. - Meghan Hoskins scored on a
direct kick in the 88th minute to propel the Norwich University
women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Rivier in the team's GNAC
opener on Saturday afternoon.
Norwich (3-2, 1-0 GNAC) was held off the scoreboard until the
waning moments, despite outplaying the Raiders throughout. The
Cadets outshot the Raiders, 18-1, and NU held a 9-1 edge on corner
kicks.
Rivier (0-3, 0-1 GNAC) was kept in the game because its
goalkeeper, Brittany Puleo made eight saves. Norwich's persistence
finally paid off at the 88:00 mark as Hoskins converted the direct
kick.
Norwich head coach Tyler Renaud was pleased with his team's
play.
"I thought the girls did a great job today," said Renaud. "I
thought it was a great effort, and I am obviously happy with the
result. I thought that Meghan Hoskins and Ashley Sanford did a
great job controlling the outside. They played very well throughout
the game."
Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when the
Cadets host GNAC foe Lasell at Howard Field. Kickoff is set for 4
p.m.
