NEWTON, Mass. -The Norwich University softball
team dropped both ends of its conference doubleheader versus Lasell
on Wednesday. The Lasers secured a 19-2 decision in five innings in
the first game, before taking a 16-2 verdict in six innings in the
nightcap.
Norwich falls to 12-8 (8-4 GNAC) following the sweep, while
Lasell improves to 10-4 (7-3 GNAC).
NU actually led game one, 2-1, at the end of three innings.
Lasell pulled even at 2-2 with one run in the fourth inning, and
the Lasers put the game away with five runs in the fifth inning and
nine more in the sixth.
Jazmin Stevens went 2-for-2 with two runs scored for the Cadets,
while Lindsey Fickett drove in both runs for Norwich.
Lasell jumped all over Norwich in game two, plating two runs in
the first inning, five more in the second frame and four runs in
the third. NU never got its offense going as the Cadets were swept.
Lisa Schmidt went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run to account for
Norwich's scoring.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday, April 10, when the Cadets
travel to West Hartford, Conn., to take on GNAC rival St. Joseph
(Conn.). The conference doubleheader is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
