Baseball: Rivier Sweeps Aside Norwich

NASHUA, N.H. - The Norwich University baseball team dropped both ends of its GNAC doubleheader versus Rivier on Wednesday, losing 4-2 in the opening game and 10-6 in the nightcap.

Norwich (1-13, 0-6 GNAC) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, but Rivier (10-7, 5-1 GNAC) rallied with two runs in the fourth to tie the score at 2-2. The Raiders went in front in the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs.

Jason Nickerson was solid on the mound for the Cadets, yielding just six hits and two earned runs over five innings of work. Bret Manning led the NU offense, going 2-for-2 in the game.

Rivier jumped on Norwich quickly in the nightcap, scoring four times in the first inning. The Cadets tied the score at 4-4 with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Raiders put together a six-run fifth inning to seize a 10-4 edge, and they never looked back.

Donovan Brown paced the Cadets offense in the second game, going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.

Norwich resumes its GNAC slate on Sunday, April 13, when the Cadets play a conference doubleheader at Emerson.
