NASHUA, N.H. - The Norwich University baseball
team dropped both ends of its GNAC doubleheader versus Rivier on
Wednesday, losing 4-2 in the opening game and 10-6 in the nightcap.
Norwich (1-13, 0-6 GNAC) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the
first inning of the opener, but Rivier (10-7, 5-1 GNAC) rallied
with two runs in the fourth to tie the score at 2-2. The Raiders
went in front in the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back
home runs.
Jason Nickerson was solid on the mound for the Cadets, yielding
just six hits and two earned runs over five innings of work. Bret
Manning led the NU offense, going 2-for-2 in the game.
Rivier jumped on Norwich quickly in the nightcap, scoring four
times in the first inning. The Cadets tied the score at 4-4 with
two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Raiders put
together a six-run fifth inning to seize a 10-4 edge, and they
never looked back.
Donovan Brown paced the Cadets offense in the second game, going
2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
Norwich resumes its GNAC slate on Sunday, April 13, when the
Cadets play a conference doubleheader at Emerson.
