BOSTON -The Norwich University softball lost
both ends of its GNAC doubleheader versus Simmons on Friday,
dropping a 5-3 decision in the opener, and falling 7-4 in the
nightcap.
Norwich falls to 13-11 (9-7 GNAC) following the sweep.
NU fell behind, 2-0, after the second inning in the opener, and
trailed 5-1 entering the seventh inning. The Cadets' seventh inning
rally came up short after plating two runs in the frame. Jazmin
Stevens, Marley Balasco and Lisa Schmidt led the Norwich offense
with two hits apiece.
In the second game, Simmons scored two runs in the third and
fourth innings, before exploding for three runs in the fifth to
take a 7-0 lead into the seventh inning. Once again, Norwich
rallied, but the Cadets could not overcome the seven-run deficit
and lost 7-4.
Stevens and Lindsay Carey each rapped out two hits apiece, with
Stevens belting one double and Carey smacking a pair of doubles.
Mackenzie Pratt suffered the loss in game one, while Emily Bean
took the loss in the second contest.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, April 12, when the Cadets
travel to Nashua, N.H., to take on GNAC rival Rivier in a
conference doubleheader.
