Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. - Craig Serino scored the Cadets' lone goal, and Ryan Klingensmith stopped 20 of the 21 shots that he faced as the sixth-ranked Norwich University men's ice hockey team played to a 1-1 draw against Amherst College in an ECAC East-NESCAC Interlock game Saturday afternoon.

The Cadets (2-2-2, 2-1-1 ECAC East) outshot the Lord Jeffs, 12-5, in the first period and Serino's power play goal with just 2:21 to play in the stanza put NU on top 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Amherst (3-2-1, 2-1-1 NESCAC) tied it up early in the second period as Jeff Landers scored off assists from Joel Covelli and Eddie Effinger at the 1:47 mark. Norwich outshot Amherst, 8-7, in the second period, but the Cadets could not find the back of the net.

Norwich came with pressure in the third period, outshooting the Lord Jeffs, 11-6. The Cadets could not score the go-ahead goal, however, and the game went into overtime.

NU held a 4-3 edge in shots in the extra session, but neither team could score as the game ended in a tie.

For the game, Norwich held a 35-21 edge in shots. The Cadets went 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Lord Jeffs were 0-for-3 on the man advantage.

The Cadets return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 9, when the Cadets travel up Interstate 89 to tangle with in-state rival St. Michael's College. Faceoff from South Burlington's Carnes Arena is set for 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on the radio at WDEV (550 AM; 96.1 FM) and on the internet at cadetsradio.com.
