CLINTON, N.Y. - Chris Lorenc scored two goals
and assisted on another to lead Hamilton to a 4-1 upset win against
sixth-ranked Norwich in an ECAC East-NESCAC Interlock men's ice
hockey game Friday evening at Russell Sage Rink.
Tom Chiappetta and Steven Lucchetti each scored one goal apiece,
and Joe Buicko was credited with two assists for the Continentals
(2-1-0, 2-1-0 NESCAC). Scott Hefferman made 21 saves, including
nine in the third period, to earn the win.
Shawn Baker scored the lone goal for Norwich (2-2-1, 2-1-0 ECAC
East) in the second period. David Thompson stopped 23 shots for the
Cadets, who still lead the all-time series, 53-29-3.
Chiappetta gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal with
1:48 left in the first period. Lorenc fired a shot from the left
circle that Thompson saved, but the rebound came out to Chiappetta,
and he poked in the puck from just outside the crease.
Baker tied the score with a short-handed goal on an assist from
Jim Koehler at 2:04 of the second. Lorenc put the Continentals
ahead for good with his own short-handed goal at 4:27 of the
period. Lorenc skated in on a breakaway and shot from the right
circle. Thompson made the stop but again gave up a rebound and
Lorenc stuffed in his own rebound.
Hamilton finally pulled away with two goals late in the third
period. Lucchetti tipped in a blast from above the left circle by
B.J. Lalonde at 15:41 for a 3-1 lead. Lorenc sealed the victory
with an empty-net goal with 59 seconds remaining.
The Continentals killed all seven Norwich power plays. Hamilton
was 1-for-6 with the extra skater. The Continentals held a 27-22
advantage in shots.
The Cadets return to action on Saturday, Dec. 6, when the Cadets
travel to Amherst, Mass., to take on the Amherst Lord Jeffs at 3
p.m., in an ECAC East-NESCAC Interlock matchup. next weekend (Dec.
