ONEONTA, N.Y. - Hartwick QB Jason Boltus threw
for 531 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Hawks to a 42-12 win
over the Norwich Cadets in an Empire 8 Conference clash Saturday
afternoon at Wright Stadium.
Hartwick (6-1, 3-1 Empire 8) raced to a 21-0 halftime lead, and
the Hawks held a comfortable 35-0 cushion early in the third
quarter before the Cadets got on the scoreboard midway through the
third stanza.
Norwich (2-6, 0-4 Empire 8) was led by senior RB Darnell
Jackson, who ran for 140 yards and a touchdown. Freshman QB Zach
Angelos accounted for the Cadets' only other score, rushing for a
one-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Boltus threw three of his five touchdown passes to WR Jack
Phelan, who finished the day with six receptions for 157 yards.
Hartwick racked up 686 yards of total offense, compared to just
268 for Norwich. The Hawks held a 34-13 edge in first downs.
Senior DE Richard Cumby led the Norwich defense with nine
tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and one quarterback sack.
Junior DB Donovan Brown had a big day defensively as well, making
eight tackles, forcing a fumble and intercepting a pass.
The Cadets' defense, which came into the game ranked among the
nation's leaders in turnovers forced, gained three more takeaways
in this game. NU recovered two fumbles and intercepted Boltus once.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 8, when the Cadets
travel to Utica, N.Y., to take on Empire 8 rival Utica at 1:30 p.m.
