WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Jess Jaggars scored a
team-high 17 points and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, and
three other Cadets scored in double figures as the Norwich women's
basketball team routed St. Joseph's (Conn.), 76-48, in a GNAC game
on Tuesday night.
Christine Daniels added 15 points, Karissa Doyon chipped in 11
points and Laural McWilliams netted 10 points for the Cadets, who
improve to 3-10 (2-0 GNAC). After struggling through its
non-conference schedule with a 1-10 mark, Norwich has turned it on
with double-digit victories in its first two league games.
NU shot a red-hot 53.6 percent from the field while holding St.
Joseph's (Conn.) to only 23.5 percent. The Cadets outrebounded the
Blue Jays, 45-27. Norwich scored 16 second chance points off of 15
offensive rebounds. Ten different Cadets players scored, and the NU
bench outscored the Blue Jays' reserves, 38-0.
St. Joseph's (Conn.) actually led 7-4 five minutes into the
contest. Norwich responded with a 16-6 run over an eight minute
span to open up a 20-13 lead at the 7:23 mark. The Blue Jays
trimmed the Cadets' lead to 22-17 with 4:46 to play in the first
half, but NU scored the final nine points of the period to take a
31-17 lead into halftime.
Norwich really poured it on in the second half, outscoring St.
Joseph's (Conn.), 45-31, in the frame. The Cadets led by as many as
32 points in the stanza, and the Blue Jays got no closer than 11.
Saint Joseph College (2-8, 0-1 GNAC) received a game-high 21
points from Illaria Schiano. Charlotte Kayij recorded a
double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Amanda Ciarcia
added 15 points for the Blue Jays.
Norwich returns to the friendly confines of Andrews Hall on
Saturday, Jan. 19, when the Cadets host Albertus Magnus in a GNAC
contest at 3 p.m.
