NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Norwich men's ice
hockey team won for the eighth time in its last nine games on
Saturday evening, defeating Connecticut College, 6-1, in an ECAC
East matchup. The Cadets actually trailed 1-0 in the first period
before reeling off six unanswered goals to secure the victory.
The Norwich victory, coupled with Babson's loss at Amherst moves
the Cadets (10-3-0, 6-1-0 ECAC East) into sole possession of first
place in the conference standings with 12 points.
Rob Campbell opened the scoring for Connecticut College (2-7-3,
2-3-2 NESCAC) with an even strength goal midway through the first
period. The Camels' lead was short-lived, however, as the Cadets
notched two goals in a 14-second span later in the period to jump
out in front for good.
Roman Krivda scored NU's first goal of the evening, and his
second in as many games as a member of the squad, with 6:04 to play
in the frame. Then, Nick DelGallo scored what proved to be the
game-winning goal just 14 seconds later at the 5:50 mark. Craig
Serino was credited with an assist on both markers.
Norwich blew the game wide open with three goals in the second
period. D.J. Fimiani kick-started the explosion with his fifth goal
of the season at the 13:40 mark. With 10:05 to play in the second
period, Nikita Kashirsky tallied an unassisted short-handed goal to
put the Cadets up 4-1. Justin Wissman closed out the period with an
even strength goal with just 34 seconds remaining on the clock.
Rick Cleaver capped the scoring with his team-leading 13th tally
of the season midway through the third period.
Norwich sophomore goaltender Ryan Klingensmith was solid in goal
for the Cadets, turning away 24 of the 25 shots that he faced.
Klingensmith remains perfect on the season, running his individual
record to 3-0-0.
Norwich outshot Connecticut College, 45-25. The Cadets were
1-for-2 on the power play, while the Camers were 0-for-4.
