NORTHFIELD, Vt.The Norwich volleyball team cruised to its second consecutive shutout victory on Wednesday evening, as the Cadets defeated Southern Vermont, 3-0, at Andrews Hall. Norwich was in control throughout the match, winning by scores of 30-16, 30-14 and 30-13.
Norwich (2-0) has yet to drop a single game all year after defeating Vermont Tech, 3-0, in its season opener last weekend. The Cadets have completely dominated each of their first two opponents, as they have not given up more than 16 points in any single game.
Alicia Chamness helped spark the Norwich victory as the freshman served up a team-high seven service aces to go along with a team-best seven digs and seven kills.
Freshman setter Molly Rice posted a career-high 15 assists, while sophomore Lauren Aikens recorded a game-high nine kills for the Cadets. Freshman Victoria Miller chipped in eight assists.
Norwich returns to the court on Saturday, Sept. 8, when the Cadets host a pair of matches during Homecoming Weekend. Norwich is scheduled to clash against Castleton State at 11 a.m., prior to tangling with Green Mountain at 3 p.m. Both matches will be contested at Andrews Hall.
