NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Norwich University baseball
catcher Aaron Ward (Greenwich, NY) has been named to the Great
Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference First team and
Norwich outfielder John Healy (Plymouth, MA) has been named to the
All-GNAC Second team.
Ward was second in the GNAC in individual batting as he sported
a .436 batting average. The senior co-captain led the Cadets in
hits (34), runs (18), doubles (7), and slug percentage (.587). Ward
also shared the lead in RBIs (15) and triples (3).
"Aaron has been a constant behind the plate for Norwich
University the past four years," said NU Head Coach John Rhoades.
"He's been a very consistent better and leads the team by example.
Aaron is in the NU Corps of Cadets and leaves tough shoes to fill,
both on and off the playing field."
Healy is also among the top individual batters in the GNAC,
finishing with a .362 average. The senior co-captain, who is among
the NU pitching rotation, recorded 10 runs on 21 hits and a dozen
RBIs. Healy also logged six doubles, one triple, and two homeruns,
the only Norwich batter to homer this season.
"John has an explosive arm both in the outfield and on the
mound," said Rhoades. "He's worked very hard this season to get
back the swing he had his sophomore year and has succeeded. He's
also in the Corps of Cadets and has been a solid leader for this
year's young team."
Norwich will close out the season on Friday with a 3:00 pm game
at Vermont Tech.
