NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Norwich outshot St. Michael's
54-11, and six different Cadets scored goals as NU pounded visiting
St. Michael's, 6-0, on Tuesday evening in front of 1,502 spectators
at Kreitzberg Arena. The Cadets, who have won three straight games,
improve to 5-2-0 (4-1-0 ECAC East), while the Purple Knights fall
to 2-3-1 (1-3-1 ECAC East).
Norwich scored the first goal of the game as Jim Koehler found
the back of the net following a pair of nice passes from C.J. Viso
and Rico Piatelli. Norwich peppered St. Michael's goaltender Tyler
Bilton with 17 shots in the period, but the Cadets were only able
to score once as they took a 1-0 lead into the second stanza.
NU began to break the game open in the second period as the
Cadets scored two more goals in the stanza. Rick Cleaver got the
offense going early in the period as the senior scored just 42
seconds into the frame. Nikita Kashirsky made it 3-0 in favor of
the Cadets when he scored at the 9:15 mark. Norwich again dominated
the period, outshooting St. Michael's 19-0 in the stanza.
Norwich really turned it on offensively in the third period,
exploding for three goals, including a pair of power play markers.
Chad Anderson gave Norwich a 4-0 lead at the 6:30 mark of the
stanza when he scored an even strength goal. The Cadets got their
power play cranked up later in the period as Nick DelGallo and Rico
Piatelli each netted man-up goals.
David Thompson earned his first shutout of the season, as the
sophomore goaltender stopped all 11 shots that he faced.
Norwich resumes its seven-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 8,
when the Cadets host Wentworth at Kreitzberg Arena at 7 p.m. The
game, which marks NU's final contest until the first weekend in
January, can be heard on the radio (WDEV: AM-550, FM-96.1) or on
