NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Jerrold Williams scored a game-high 24 points, and Jamel Bedford added 21 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the Norwich men's basketball team past Johnson State, 83-68, Saturday evening at Andrews Hall.

The victory moves the Cadets (3-1) into the Hockenbury Tournament championship game, where they will face Nichols College on Sunday at 3 p.m. Johnson State (1-3), meanwhile, will face Lyndon State in the Hockenbury consolation game at 1 p.m.

Williams was honored prior to the game for scoring his 1,000th career point in Norwich's 71-61 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Thursday. The senior then went out and played another tremendous game, hitting 8-of-14 field goals, including 7-of-11 from three-point range.

Derrick Montiero joined Williams and Bedford in double-figures with 12 points. Chris Gaither added nine points off the bench.

Norwich was on fire throughout the game, hitting 50.8 percent of its field goals. The Cadets, who totaled 22 assists on their 32 field goals, outrebounded Johnson State, 39-31.

The game went back and forth over the first 10 minutes of play, and Johnson State held a 17-16 advantage at the 10:31 mark. That was when Norwich began to assert itself, as the Cadets ripped off a 16-3 spurt over a six-minute span to open a 32-20 lead with 4:31 to play before halftime.

Norwich increased its advantage to 14 points two different times later in the half, before settling for a 38-28 halftime lead.

The Cadets increased their lead to as many as 24 points in the second half en route to the 15-point victory. The Badgers never seriously threatened in the second 20 minutes, as they got no closer than nine points in the stanza.

Charlie Viana led four Johnson State players in double-figures with 13 points. Miles Smith Jr. added 12 points, while Chris Lamica and John Foley added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
