NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Val Beckwith led five Bates
players in double-figures with 17 points as the visiting Bobcats
downed Norwich, 76-50, in a women's basketball game played Saturday
afternoon at Andrews Hall.
Sarah Barton nearly recorded a triple-double for Bates (2-2) as
she scored 15 points, dished out 13 assists and made nine steals.
Matia Kostakis produced a double-double of her own, scoring 10
points and hauling in 10 rebounds. ShawnRose Lanchantin and
Danielle Schaefers each chipped in 10 points apiece to round out
the list of Bobcats in double-figures.
Bates was in control of the game from the opening tip, as the
Bobcats outscored Norwich 30-9 over the first 11 minutes of play.
Bates led by as many as 28 points in the first half, and the
Bobcats took a 46-23 lead into halftime.
Norwich (0-6) was able to get no closer than 21 points the rest
of the way.
Erica Rate led the Cadets with a game-high 21 points, while Ally
Daniels chipped in 10 points. Laural McWilliams ripped down 10
rebounds, while Christine Daniels added eight points off the bench.
Norwich turned the ball over 29 times, and Bates scored 30
points off those miscues. The Cadets shot just 34.5 percent from
the field, while the Bobcats hit 42.0 percent of its field goals.
Rate, who averaged 15.0 ppg. during the two-day tournament, was
selected to the Hockenbury Tournament all-tournament team.
Norwich resumes its homestand on Tuesday, Dec. 4, when the
Cadets host SUNY New Paltz at 7 p.m. at Andrews Hall.
