PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The 11th-ranked Norwich
men's ice hockey team fell to Plattsburgh State, 5-3, Saturday
night in the Primelink Great Northern Shootout championship game
played at the Stafford Ice Center.
Plattsburgh (9-1-0) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead just 7:44
into the game, and never trailed en route to the program's first
Primelink Shootout title since 1999.
Norwich (2-2-0) scored back-to-back power play goals as the
Cadets rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the third period. Eric
Ouellette began the NU surge with a first period marker off assists
from Nikita Kashirsky and Raphael Robitaille. Then, D.J. Fimiani
lit the lamp just 24 seconds into the second stanza to square the
game at 2-2.
Plattsburgh scored twice in a span of 31 seconds later in the
second period to reclaim its two-goal advantage, 4-2. Kashirsky
pulled the NU to within 4-3 going into the third period when he
scored off assists from Robitaille and Chad Anderson.
Plattsburgh added its fifth goal late in the third period to ice
the victory.
Fimiani, who chipped in four assists in Friday's 5-2 victory
over Middlbury, represented Norwich on the Primelink Great Northern
Shootout All-Tournament Team.
Norwich will return to action on Friday, Nov. 30, when the
Cadets open their home slate against Hamilton at 7 p.m., at
Kreitzberg Arena. The game can be heard on WDEV radio (AM-550,
