WATERVILLE, N.H. - Four different Cadets scored
goals, and Cindy Fortin stopped all eight shots that she faced as
the Norwich women's ice hockey team opened its ECAC regular season
with a convincing 4-0 win over Plymouth State on Saturday evening.
The Cadets (2-0, 1-0 ECAC East) completely dominated play,
outshooting Plymouth State by a whopping 80-8 margin.
Annie DiVito opened the scoring for the Cadets early in the
second period with a nice wrist shot goal, assisted by Danielle
LaSpina. Shannon McNulty made it 2-0 later in the second stantza
when she converted a pass from Brittane Michaud. Kelsey Cone added
a power play goal off an assists from Amanda Gage and Ashley Cassan
later in the second period to give NU a commanding 3-0 edge heading
into the final 20 minutes
Michaud iced the game for Norwich with a third period breakaway
goal, assisted by Erika VanDerWerf and McNulty.
It marked the first career shutout for Fortin, who faced only
the eight shots on goal.
The Cadets wrap up their weekend slate with a contest at
Castleton State on Sunday, Nov. 18. Face off is scheduled for 3
p.m. Norwich defeated the Spartans, 3-1, in the season opener on
Nov. 9.
