NEWTON, Mass. - The Norwich volleyball team saw
its season come to an end on Tuesday night as the Cadets fell to
Lasell, 3-2, in a GNAC quarterfinal matchup. NU completes its
second varsity season with a very respectable overall mark of 16-8.
Fifth-seeded Norwich won the first game of the match by the
score of 30-27. Fourth-seeded Lasell took game two, 31-29, and the
Lasers assumed control of the match with a 30-18 triumph in the
pivotal third game. NU refused to go down quietly, rebounding to
win game four, 28-30, setting up a winner-take-all fifth game. The
Lasers were just a little too much for the Cadets in the decisive
game, claiming a 15-8 verdict to secure the match.
Freshmen Alicia Chamness, Molly Rice and Lisset Magdaleno led
Norwich statistically, as each player produced a double-double.
Chamness, who has led the Cadets in kills all season long, smacked
17 in this contest. The Eugene, Ore., native added 16 digs as well.
Rice, who emerged as Norwich's setter this year, recorded a
team-best 31 assists to go along with 14 digs.
Magdaleno, meanwhile, notched 17 kills, 15 digs and four service
aces. Keira Holmes chipped in with a team-high 27 digs.
