Patrick Knapp '20 enters his third season as the head coach of the rifle team in 2024-25.
Knapp led the Cadets to a successful 2023-24 campaign, which saw Norwich finish fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) Championships.
Raised in Toledo, Ohio, Knapp began competitive shooting during his freshmen year of high school. He participated in rifle matches throughout the states of Ohio and Michigan.
Knapp served as an Infantry Unit Leader in the United States Marine Corps for over 23 years. Throughout his service as a Marine, Knapp acted as a Primary Marksmanship Instructor while also serving as the Chief Instructor for the Marine Corps premier infantry course.
Norwich has returned its rifle team for the first time since the 2004-05 season when they finished 1st place in the ROTC Smallbore. The Cadets have intermittently offered rifle dating back to as early as 1915.
Knapp will helm just the fourth NCAA Division III school to sponsor varsity rifle and the 30th overall among all divisions. Coast Guard, MIT, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice are the only Division III schools to sponsor the sport.
Knapp is a 2020 graduate of Norwich University.
