Ben Zacher ’20 M'25 enters his fourth season as the Associate Director of Athletic Communications at Norwich University in 2025–26, continuing to oversee the day-to-day operations of an increasingly digital and dynamic department.
Zacher originally joined the department in August 2022 as Broadcast & Video Coordinator before earning a promotion to Associate Director later that fall. He now supports media relations for all 23 varsity teams, serving as the primary contact for 10 programs, while managing game-day operations, digital content, statistics, press releases, and live broadcasts.
Among his most visible contributions has been the successful redesign and launch of the Norwich Athletics website via SIDEARM Sports, as well as the implementation of the University's Digital Athletic Hall of Fame. The latter debuted as part of a 2024–25 branding campaign and now spans online platforms and touchscreen displays in the Athletic Center, preserving and promoting Norwich's athletic legacy. He also serves as the primary informational advisor to the Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee, curating materials, coordinating nominations, and emceeing the annual induction ceremony.
Zacher helped lead Norwich's hosting of the 2024 and 2025 GNAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, coordinating a full-scale event that spanned campus facilities, course operations, and meet-day media coverage. He also organizes annual events such as the Ed Hockenbury Basketball Classic and Chris Munn 7s Rugby Tournament, while supporting high-profile initiatives including Senior Day celebrations, NCAA Tournament coverage, and conference championship operations across multiple sports.
He has overseen a growing slate of student-athlete recognition efforts, coordinating nominations and promotional campaigns for College Sports Communicators Academic All-America, conference and regional honors, and national awards. He nominated and promoted Norwich's Academic All-America honoree Ann-Frederique Guay '23 of women's hockey, and coordinated Norwich's back-to-back GNAC Athlete of the Year winners for men's sports, Benjamin Stark '24 and Will Thompson '25. He also serves as Norwich's point person for CSC Academic All-District nominations and coordinates CSC Academic All-America submissions across all eligible sports.
Zacher supervises the department's expanding work-study program, which has grown from just three students when he arrived to over 16 student contributors across statistics, photography, videography, and game production. He mentors student workers from across the Corps of Cadets and civilian campus, helping train the next generation of sports media professionals and elevating coverage for every sport on campus.
His prior experience includes freelance broadcasting and media roles at Howard Payne University, Goucher College, and the Vermont Mountaineers. With the Mountaineers, he led media operations during the 2019 NECBL All-Star Game and served as a social media coordinator and press box supervisor. At Norwich, he began calling basketball and lacrosse games in 2021–22 before transitioning into a full-time role. His broadcasting work includes the 2022 GNAC Men's Lacrosse Championship and the program's first NCAA Division III Tournament victory that spring.
As a student, Zacher worked extensively within the Department of Athletic Communications as a statistician, camera operator, and media assistant. He contributed to the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship, managed athletic record book projects, and served as the team manager for women's basketball from 2016 to 2020.
Zacher graduated magna cum laude from Norwich in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and minors in English and Writing. He earned his Master of Science in Leadership in February 2025.
