Austin Manhey

Austin Manhey '19 enters his third season as an assistant coach for the men's rugby team in 2024-25.

Recruited by Coach Weggler out of Burnt Hill-Ballston Lake, N.Y., Manhey was a four-year starter during his years at Norwich, where he and the team found success over those years by competing in the National Championship tournament three times for each 15s and 7s, along with not losing a conference game from 2017-19.  He was a top contributor as a scorer but showed versatility on the pitch by playing multiple positions: flanker, inside/outside center, and fullback.

In his sophomore year, Manhey was dubbed an All-American and attended the All-American camp for the U-20 Rugby World Cup.  In Manhey’s senior season, he was named captain and led the Cadets to the National Tournament.  Additionally, he was awarded the Chris Munn Rugby Scholarship for his dedication and work effort on and off the pitch.  As an assistant coach, he added two more national championship appearances in the 22-23 season to his rugby resume.

After graduation, Manhey started working at Frog Alley Brewing Company in 2020, where he was offered the first ever Brewer Apprenticeship in New York State under Master Brewer Rich Michaels and taking courses under Schenectady Community College to complete his apprenticeship, where he continues to work during the summer days.
