Scott Caulfield enters his fifth season as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Norwich University in 2025–26, after being hired as the first individual to hold the position on June 18, 2021.

Caulfield is one of the most well-known collegiate strength and conditioning coaches in the industry. He was named the 2025 College Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)—a prestigious national honor recognizing his impact, leadership, and innovation within the field. He currently serves as the President of the NSCA Foundation's Board of Directors, after being elected Vice President of the NSCA in July 2023. He previously spent 11 years with the NSCA as both Coaching Education Manager and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Prior to arriving at Norwich, Caulfield served for two years as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. While there, he worked directly with the NCAA Division I men’s hockey team (2011–15) and women’s soccer program (2011–13) through Colorado College’s partnership with the NSCA.

Caulfield’s background also includes three years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Dartmouth College, where he worked primarily with football, men’s and women’s swimming, and rugby. During this time, he also served as Director of Sports Performance at the River Valley Club, one of New England’s premier training facilities, and held the role of Vermont State Director for the NSCA.

Caulfield is a native Vermonter and earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Castleton University in 2000. From 2003 to 2006, he served as the strength coach for the Norwich men’s rugby program prior to its elevation to varsity status, while also working as the Fitness Director for First In Fitness in Berlin, Vt. From 2006 to 2008, he was Head Strength Coach and Director of Camps for the back-to-back American Basketball Association (ABA) champion Vermont Frost Heaves.

He holds multiple elite-level credentials, including the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction (RSCC*D) from the NSCA. He also holds USA Weightlifting’s Level 2 Advanced Sports Performance Coach certification.

Caulfield earned his Master’s degree in Sports Coaching from the University of Denver in 2017. A veteran and lifelong learner, Caulfield is passionate about results, relationships, and building resilient student-athletes. He continues to work closely with Norwich sport coaches, athletic training staff, and student-athletes to enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and help Norwich teams compete at the highest level.
