Softball: Cadets Fall to Raiders in GNAC North Division Opener

NASHUA, N.H. — The Norwich University softball team continued Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division play on the road Saturday, dropping a pair of contests to Rivier, 9-0 and 10-3.

Game 1: Rivier 9, Norwich 0 (5 innings)
Rivier set the tone early in the opener, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looking back en route to a run-rule victory.

The Raiders continued to build their lead while pitcher Hayley Berube kept the Norwich offense in check, allowing just four hits in a complete-game shutout.

Madison DeCota (Strafford, N.H.), Ellie Laroche (Essex, Vt.), Abbigale Williams (Andover, Vt.), and Emma Thompson (Westminster, Vt.) each recorded hits for the Cadets, with DeCota also swiping a base.

Game 2: Rivier 10, Norwich 3
The Cadets responded in the nightcap with an early spark, taking the lead in the second inning.

Courtney Thomas (Strafford, N.H.) and Williams opened the frame with back-to-back singles before Josephine Whitney (Holbrook, Mass.) added a base hit to put two runners aboard. Charlii Carbajal Sanchez (Broomfield, Colo.) then delivered a clutch triple to the right-center field gap, driving in both runners. She later came around to score on a throwing error, giving Norwich a 3-1 advantage.

Rivier answered quickly, however, erupting for six runs in the third inning to reclaim the lead. The Raiders maintained control the rest of the way to complete the sweep.

Carbajal Sanchez led the Norwich offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored, and a triple. DeCota added a double in the contest.

Norwich returns home for its 2026 home opener on March 29, hosting Simmons in a GNAC North Division doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
