BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Norwich University women's wrestling team swept a tri-meet on Sunday, earning a 25–24 victory over New England College before closing the day with a 40–0 sweep of the hosts from Bridgeport University.
Norwich 25, New England College 24
The Cadets edged New England College in a tightly contested dual that featured bonus-point wins on both sides.
Norwich earned key victories at 124, 138, 160, 180, and 207 pounds.
Gianna Silva (Monroe, Conn.) (124) opened the Cadets' scoring with a fall at 2:40, while
Charlii Carbajal Sanchez (Broomfield, Colo.) (138) followed with a forfeit win.
Abbigale Williams (Andover, Vt.) (160) and
Ana Lemler (Bourbon, Ind.) (207) also collected forfeit victories to keep Norwich within reach.
At 180 pounds,
Ay'Seante Ross (Wilmington, N.C.) delivered a critical pin at 2:29 over Marisol Almanzar to swing momentum back to the Cadets and secure the team decision. Norwich also added an exhibition win as Carbajal Sanchez recorded a fall in extra action.
Norwich 40, Bridgeport 0
Norwich responded with a dominant performance against Bridgeport, winning all contested bouts and recording multiple falls and injury defaults.
The Cadets picked up victories across the lineup, highlighted by falls from Silva (131),
Nalani Portela-Bailey (Cibolo, Texas) (145), Williams (160), and Ross (207).
Gianiece Cope (Bridgeport, Conn.) (110) and Lemler (180) added injury-default victories, while
Samara Ducasse (Indianapolis, Ind.) (103) and Carbajal Sanchez (138) earned forfeit wins.
The Cadets return home for their final tune-up before regionals, when they host a rematch with New England College on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. inside Plumley Armory.
