Women's Swimming & Diving: Cadets surge past Panthers on Senior Day in final home meet of season

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's swimming & diving team posted one of its most complete dual-meet efforts of the season on Saturday afternoon, claiming wins in the majority of events en route to a 190-70 victory over Plymouth State University on Senior Day at Goodyear Pool.

Prior to the meet, the Cadets honored eight graduating seniors from both programs, including women's swimmers and divers Emily Faint (Highland Falls, N.Y.), Abbey Houghton (Dover, N.H.), Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.), Brandy Lewis (Strafford, Vt.), and Deanna Parot (San Diego, Calif.).  The group was recognized alongside men's team seniors John Connor Hallstrom, Adrian Riendeau, and Pieter Venema.

Norwich opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as Burgan Danger (Wadsworth, Ohio), Delaney Allen (Gibsonia, Pa.), Maria Piekarczyk (Dudley, Mass.), and Alannah Kelliher (Middleboro, Mass.) combined for a 4:31.85 finish.  Allen went on to lead the team with three individual victories, winning the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.38), the 50-yard butterfly (28.20), and the 100-yard individual medley (1:06.33).

The Cadets showcased strong depth throughout the meet, with Ashley Morin (Dracut, Mass.) claiming the 400-yard individual medley (5:35.07), Parot sprinting to a win in the 50-yard freestyle (26.72), and Kelliher touching first in the 100-yard freestyle (58.69).  Houghton, one of five seniors honored, added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 3:02.19.

Norwich also swept the boards, with Laitala notching first-place finishes in both the 6-optional (234.80) and 5-voluntary (164.80) 1-meter diving events, clearing the field by over 40 points in both events.

Additional top-three performances included Danger (second in the 50-yard backstroke in 31.00 and second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:27.95), Piekarczyk (second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 37.67), Anna Gosselin (Lisbon, Conn.) (second in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:00.10), and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Danger, Gosselin, Kelliher, and Parot, who placed first in 1:50.89.

LEADERS: With the victory, Norwich improves to 4-2 in dual meets and will conclude the regular season next Saturday, Jan. 24, on the road at Eastern Connecticut State University at 12:00 p.m.  The Cadets will then turn their focus to the 2026 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), where they will aim to defend their three-time GNAC crown.
