Athletics: Norwich sets new high with 126 GNAC Academic All-Conference selections

WINTHROP, Mass. - A record-breaking 126 Norwich University student-athletes have been named to the 2024-25 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Academic All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The 126 selections mark a new all-time high for Norwich, surpassing last year's program record of 125.  This year also marks the fourth consecutive year the Cadets have had over 100 student-athletes recognized, continuing a steady rise in academic excellence since 114 student-athletes earned the honor in 2021-22.

The 126 honorees represent Norwich's 14 GNAC-affiliated programs.  Baseball led all programs with 17 selections, while women's soccer paced all women's teams with 14 honorees.  Men's cross country followed closely with 13, while men's lacrosse (12), women's swimming & diving (11), women's basketball (10), and women's lacrosse (10) also reached double-digit totals.

Across the GNAC, Norwich ranked fourth among all institutions in total honorees.  Saint Joseph's College of Maine topped the list with 159 recipients, followed by Lasell University's 147 and JWU (Providence) with 132.  The University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) rounded out the top five with 121 honorees.

In total, 128 honors were awarded to Norwich student-athletes, with two multi-sport athletes earning Academic All-Conference recognition in multiple GNAC-sponsored sports.

To be eligible for the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have reached at least sophomore academic standing.  Student-athletes must also have competed in at least one of the conference's 21 championship sports.  A total of 1,647 student-athletes were honored by the GNAC, which eclipses a new league-high.

The GNAC is an NCAA Division III association made up of 14 member institutions and over 4,000 student-athletes across the New England region.  Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors 20 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity, and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
