Women's Swimming & Diving: Cadets surge past Maine Maritime behind 10 event wins to cap perfect homestand

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's swimming & diving team wrapped up its home stretch with another strong showing at Goodyear Pool on Saturday morning, cruising past Maine Maritime Academy, 143-76, in a dual meet victory to close out a perfect three-meet homestand.

The Cadets claimed 10 event wins across the 12-event slate, highlighted by multiple individual victories from Delaney Allen (Gibsonia, Pa.) and Anna Gosselin (Lisbon, Conn.), along with another dominant showing on the boards by Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.).  Norwich added points in bunches throughout the meet behind a balanced effort across all disciplines.

The Cadets opened the day with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as Burgan Danger (Wadsworth, Ohio), Vivian Buntin (Middlebury, Conn.), Allen, and Maria Piekarczyk (Dudley, Mass.) combined for a 4:39.81 finish.  The early momentum carried into the distance events, where Gosselin swept both the 1000 free (12:22.99) and 500 free (5:57.90) in commanding fashion.

Allen picked up another three-win day, touching the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.31) and 100-yard freestyle (58.28) after anchoring the medley relay win.  Piekarczyk added a first-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly (29.75), and Parot claimed the top spot in the 50 free (27.17), continuing her streak of key sprint points for Norwich.

Laitala remained untouchable on the diving board, winning the six-dive optional round with a score of 229.25.  Buntin added a first-place effort in the 50 breaststroke (36.72), while Kylie Farris (Leander, Texas) earned the win in the 50 backstroke (32.79) and added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard IM (1:13.61).

The Cadets capped the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Parot, Gosselin, Ruby Knoth (Olympia, Wash.), and Farris combined for a 4:08.57 performance.

The victory capped a sweep for Norwich inside Goodyear Pool, as the men's team also earned a 124-93 win over Maine Maritime in their dual meet.

LEADERS: The Norwich women return to the pool next weekend, traveling to Saint Michael's College for an 11:00 AM dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 15, before heading to the two-day North Country Invitational at SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22.
