VERMONT MOUNTAINEERS | LIVE VIDEO
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Vermont Mountaineers baseball team will host Norwich Night on Friday, July 5th, at the Montpelier Recreation Field in Montpelier, Vt. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m. against the Valley Blue Sox.
The Mountaineers have generously donated several tickets for Norwich University employees and their families. These tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at a Norwich admissions table at the ballpark entrance.  Ed Hockenbury, Director of Athletics, will throw out the ceremonial opening pitch as part of the evening's festivities.
Notably, Norwich University's 25th president, Lieutenant General John J. Broadmeadow '83, USMC (Retired), and his wife, Karen Broadmeadow '83, will be special guests and will be acknowledged before the game.
Established in 2003 by general manager Brian Gallagher, the Vermont Mountaineers are a collegiate summer baseball team. They are a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League and have won league championships in 2006, 2007, and 2015, in addition to two regular season titles and five division titles.
Several Norwich University baseball team players have suited up for the Mountaineers over the organization's 21-year history, including Billy Whaley '17, who tossed 28.2 innings in 2015 en route to helping the team to its third NECBL title. Most recently, Nick Beavin '24 saw action during the 2022 NECBL season and playoffs when the Mountaineers finished as NECBL runners-up to the Martha's Vineyard Sharks.
The team has been a stepping stone for professional opportunities, as the Mountaineers have had 24 players debut in Major League Baseball.
Many noteworthy events have occurred at Montpelier Recreation Field, both on the field and behind the scenes. In 2005, the Mountaineers retired two former legends who called Montpelier their home during the great run of the Northern League: Hall of Famer Robin Roberts' #36 (Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros) and Ray Fisher's #44 (Cincinnati Reds).Â
Currently, the Mountaineers sit atop the NECBL's North Division with the league's best record.
In addition to the game, fans are invited to play catch on the Montpelier Recreation Field after the game.
