Softball: Cadets Swept by Monks

STANDISH, Maine- The Norwich softball team hit the road to Saint Joseph's College of Maine Thursday afternoon for their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader in as many days.

The Monks jumped ahead early, plating four runs in the first but eventually the Cadets would get on the board. The frame opened with a pinch hit walk for Julia Vawter (Pelham, N.H.). Vawter would make her way to third, and with two down and runners on the corners, she would come home on a Brianna Vitale (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) single. The following batter would walk loading the bases for Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) who laced a single down the right field line scoring Vitale and Liliana Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.) to close the gap to one. Saint Joe's would answer and score seven straight runs to bring the first game to an early end.

In the second game, Norwich jumped ahead in the first with McGinn scoring Vitale with a single, but they could not hold down the Monks who completed the sweep. Up next for the Cadets, they will return home for a third straight GNAC North Division twin bill against Simmons with game one set to start at 1 PM.
